mystery of snowflakes

work process

Depicting the formation process of snow crystals was the real challenge in this project, as there are only scientific descriptions available. I chose this half-realistic and half-infographic interpretation and decided on eight different shapes from the infinite abundance of crystal variations.

I constructed the outer shape and the skeleton of the crystals as vector graphics and used them to create specific grayscale images in Photoshop. These served as references for different combined effects in After Effects until the result seemed graphically appropriate to me.

The icy pane is a montage of three different images, which I then processed with effects in Photoshop and After Effects until this little work of art was created.
